Daycare FAQs

How do I join?

We always look forward to new members joining the Scent-a-Barks pack and to ensure the safety of your dog and the ones in daycare, we apply a comprehensive application process.

Step 1 Get in touch so we can have a chat about your dog and arrange a FREE meet and greet.

Step 2 You’ll be sent an email with a link to our online registration process

Step 3 Book in for an assessment half day. To make sure your dog receives a warm welcome we will agree on an assessment date to introduce your dog to the pack. We always provide a tailored induction to match his or her temperament so that we gain trust and build confidence straight away. Your dog will be assigned to a staff member and we will give you updates on how they are getting on and feedback from their assessment!

Step 4 Providing the assessment was a success we can begin booking in regular daycare slots!

Can I drop my dog off to you?

Unfortunately, we don’t allow customers to drop off and pick up at the centre at the moment.

Are all dogs kept together?

We separate dogs by temperament and play style. We have separate areas for different activities and for dogs with different energy levels; each dog’s day is tailored to their likes and energy.

What if my dog is a little shy?
Don’t worry; all our first-timers go through an orientation process where they meet all the dogs in smaller groups. To introduce them gently we sometimes suggest trying a half-day. It all depends upon the individual and we have many success stories where shy dogs found their confidence at daycare.
Can my dog attend daycare on a one-off?

Unfortunately not, we require a minimum of a half a day session every week. This is so we can get to know the dogs, and also so they get to know us and the other dogs too! Dogs are pack animals and their group dynamic thrives off familiar faces and routine.

Do you require my dog to be spayed / castrated?
Our licence requires that dogs in daycare over one-year-old must be spayed / castrated.
It has been our experience that a lot of entire dogs can be singled out and ‘picked’ on by dominant males and females of the pack. A female which hasn’t been spayed may release pheromones when coming into heat that may cause conflict and instability within the pack.
To keep our play regulated and fun, and to provide a happy, healthy, non-competitive environment for our guests we can’t accept intact dogs into our facility.
What vaccinations does my dog need?

To ensure we keep standards of health high in our centre, all dogs must be flea and worm treated and be up to date with their vaccinations including:
• Annual vaccination (distemper, parvovirus, hepatitis, leptospirosis). We also accept TITRE test results.
• Kennel cough. Fortunately, the majority of cases are not serious and pass after a few weeks, but it is very contagious. It’s not just kennels that your dog can get kennel cough from, your dog can get it from a dog walk, the vets or at puppy classes. This is why it’s important to help your dog immunise against kennel cough even if they aren’t going to kennels.

What if my dog is injured or becomes unwell?

We employ the highest Health & Safety standards but should your dog become unwell or sustain an injury at daycare you will be notified immediately. In an emergency, we will take your dog to the closest vets, which is located on the same road.

Walking FAQs

How many dogs will my dog be walked with?
We tailor our services to each dog’s individual needs. Scent-a-Barks encourage socialisation and believe dogs have more fun playing together! So if your dog enjoys the company of others we usually walk in a small group of 3-4 (Fully insured for up to 6 dogs). Groups are carefully selected in terms of breed, age, sex and temperament and can be discussed with the owner beforehand. We also offer one to one walking services.
Will I meet my dog walker?
Of course! We love to meet owners and pets alike and want you to feel absolutely comfortable leaving your pet in our care. We offer a free service for prospective clients where we will meet you and your dog and discuss your requirements.

What security measures do you have?
Your key will be kept in a secure location and not be associated with any addresses/personal information. In the unlikely event that your key is lost/stolen we will notify you immediately. Your personal information will never be sold or discussed with any third parties.

All our staff are DBS checked and have worked for the company for over a year (they have great reviews, from humans and doggies!)

Do you offer weekend / bank holiday walks?
Yes, to regular clients. This may alter the pricing structure – please enquire.

What communication should I expect to receive when my dog is being walked?
We absolutely love updating owners with our adventures! Your walker will send an email service report at the end of each walk which details where they went, what time, and what they got up to!

We use a bespoke system, Pet Sitter Plus, which allows us to communicate every walk with you.
