Frequently asked questions
We always look forward to new members joining the Scent-a-Barks pack and to ensure the safety of your dog and the ones in daycare, we apply a comprehensive application process. Step 1 Get in touch so we can have a chat about your dog and arrange a meet and greet at our centre. Step 2 You’ll be sent an email with a link to our online registration process Step 3 Book in for an assessment half day. To make sure your dog receives a warm welcome we will agree on an afternoon assessment date to introduce your dog to the pack. We always provide a tailored induction to match his or her temperament so that we gain trust and build confidence straight away. Your dog will be assigned to a staff member and we will give you updates on how they are getting on and feedback from their assessment!

Yes. As a small centre, where all dogs are weekly friends, we can facilitate the group being all together and integrating. We have zones and outside areas which we use if we have a smaller more playful group that wants to zoom around!
Don’t worry; all our first-timers go through an orientation process where they meet all the dogs in smaller groups. To introduce them gently, we sometimes suggest trying half-days once a week so they get used to it. It all depends upon the individual and we have many success stories where shy dogs found their confidence at daycare. If we have any concerns at all we always communicate back to you and do the right thing for your dog.
Unfortunately not, we require a minimum of a half a day session every week. This is so we can get to know the dogs, and also so they get to know us and the other dogs too! Dogs are pack animals and their group dynamic thrives off familiar faces and routine.
Dogs over one-year-old to be spayed / castrated to attend our daycare.
It has been our experience that a lot of entire dogs can be singled out and ‘picked’ on by dominant males and females of the pack. A female which hasn’t been spayed may release pheromones when coming into heat that may cause conflict and instability within the pack. We have found that this can be breed dependent in our centre so please get in touch to discuss further as we may be able to accept puppies over 6 months that have not been done, until that 1 year mark, but on other occasions we will have to wait until they have been done.
To ensure we keep standards of health high in our centre, all dogs must be flea and worm treated and be up to date with their vaccinations including:
• Annual vaccination (distemper, parvovirus, hepatitis, leptospirosis). We also accept TITRE test results.
• Kennel cough. Fortunately, the majority of cases are not serious and pass after a few weeks, but it is very contagious. It’s not just kennels that your dog can get kennel cough from, your dog can get it from a dog walk, the vets or at puppy classes. This is why it’s important to help your dog immunise against kennel cough even if they aren’t going to kennels.
We employ the highest Health & Safety standards but should your dog become unwell or sustain an injury at daycare you will be notified immediately. In an emergency, we will take your dog to the closest vets, which is located on the same road (Taverham Vets).
